Revision that works

Is it too late to start revising for my GCSEs?

No - it is not too late. Weeks are enough time to move grades if you spend them well: work from your weakest high-mark topics outwards, revise by answering questions rather than making notes, and let past papers show you where the marks are. Late revision has one rule - triage, not perfection.

First: some perspective

Every spring, thousands of students type this exact question into a forum at midnight - and every August, plenty of them collect results they are proud of. Late is not the same as too late. What matters now is not the revision you have not done; it is what you do with the time in front of you.

The triage plan

With limited time, the aim is the most marks per hour - which means being deliberate about what you touch first.

  • List your subjects and be honest about where each one stands. Ten minutes, once.
  • In each subject, find the big-mark topics you are shaky on - that is where the cheapest marks are. Strong topics need a light touch, not a fortnight.
  • Revise by doing: questions, flashcards from memory, past-paper practice. No new beautiful notes.
  • Check each answer properly and fix the gap it shows you before moving on.
  • Keep sessions short and frequent - even 30 focused minutes moves a topic.

What to let go of

Perfection. A complete set of notes, a colour-coded timetable, covering every topic - those are luxuries of a longer runway. Skipping your strongest and your least-examined topics is not lazy; it is strategy. Aim to be noticeably better in the topics most likely to earn marks, and let that be enough.

Also let go of the all-nighter. Sleep is when your brain consolidates what you practised; trading it for foggy extra hours is a losing swap, especially in the final week.

If panic is the thing stopping you starting

Being behind feels heavy, and heaviness makes starting harder - that loop is normal and it breaks with one small session, today. Pick one topic, do three questions, and the loop is broken. If the worry itself is taking over, talk to someone: a teacher, your family, or one of the free services in our guide on coping with exam stress.

Start where you are

Wiz meets you at your actual level - answer a few questions in a topic and the difficulty adjusts to you, so late revision goes straight to the gaps instead of starting from page one. Start a free trial - no card needed.
