Listening: questions in Gujarati, explained point by point
Everything the GCSE specification expects you to be able to do, and how to actually do it - the same lesson a signed-in student studies from.
Know the section set in Gujarati
At Foundation it is Section B, at Higher Section A: two questions where both the questions and the instructions are in Gujarati, and the answers are chosen rather than written. The subject content asks for between a fifth and three tenths of every language GCSE's listening marks to come from questions set in the language.
Know the instruction words
સાંભળો listen, વાંચો read, પસંદ કરો choose, સાચો જવાબ the right answer, ખાનામાં in the box, નિશાની કરો mark. Knowing them saves time for the recording.
Read the Gujarati options before you listen
Use the reading time to understand every option. Work out the key word in each, and the Gujarati you might hear that means the same.
Expect the same meaning in different words
The recording rarely repeats an option word for word. ખુશ in an option may be આનંદમાં in the recording; મોંઘું may be heard as બહુ પૈસા લાગે છે.
Know the question words
કોણ who, ક્યાં where, ક્યારે when, કેમ why, શું what, કેટલા how many: one word tells you what kind of answer to look for.
Choose exactly as many answers as the question asks
If it asks for two answers, give two. An extra choice can cost you the mark, so read the instruction for the number before you listen.
