Will grade boundaries be lower this year?
Nobody knows - genuinely, including the exam boards, until every script is marked. Boundaries are set after marking precisely so that a harder paper gets lower boundaries and a gentler one gets higher boundaries. So the system already adjusts for the exact thing prediction threads worry about. If a paper felt brutal, that is the situation boundary-setting exists to absorb - your grade is protected by design, not by forum forecasts.

Why prediction threads are guesswork
A boundary prediction needs the one thing no forum has: the marking data for the whole cohort. Until awarding meetings happen, that data does not exist even inside the boards. What threads run on instead is vibes - and the vibes are skewed, because students who found a paper hard are far more likely to post about it than students who quietly got on fine. A thread full of "that paper was impossible" tells you about who posts, not about where the boundary will land.
How standard-setting actually protects you
After marking, senior examiners review real scripts around candidate boundary marks and combine that judgement with statistical evidence about the year group, overseen by Ofqual. The goal is that a grade represents the same standard every year, whatever the paper threw at you. If this summer's paper ran harder than usual, the boundaries come down to match - automatically, for everyone, without anyone needing to campaign for it.
What matters on a hard paper is how you did relative to the standard, and everyone sat the same paper. The question you left blank was very likely left blank by thousands of others.
What to do instead of doomscrolling
Boundary threads offer the feeling of doing something about a thing you cannot do anything about. Better uses of the same nervous energy:
- Mid-series: close the thread and give the next paper the attention this one no longer needs.
- After your last paper: the marks are in and the outcome is fixed - the healthiest move is to genuinely stop, rest and let August come to you.
